OCTOBER 2025 CODING (in honor of Ada Lovelace day)

"If you give a coder a Cookie"

October is programming month for Byte Sized Robotics. If you learn to code, all kinds of interesting and unexpected things can might occur. To highlight that, we have taken inspiration from Laura Numeroff's 1985 children's book, If you give a Mouse a Cookie to encourage Middle and High School students in Columbia County, Oregon to write some code, learn about coding and programming, and see what unexpected things can occur. If they send Byte Sized an email with a video or a photo of their code working by the 22nd of October 2025), the robotics team will deliver the coder a half dozen cookies before the end of October. That simple. (Six cookies per person please) Send your entries to team4662business@gmail.com and subject line Coder Challenge.

Some suggestions for finding free code teaching online to those without any experience, try the Hour of Code options at CODE.ORG (Try out the Music Lab, especially for our Band and Choir students, but there are options for Gamers, movie fans, and even poets out there! ) Also Kahn Academy has an Hour of Code here. https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/hour-of-code

These are just suggestions but you can find your own fit (age and school appropriate of course).

Celebrate National Science Day

Science of the edible variety will be showcased in November for National Science Day. Gummy bears changing sizes, experimentation, and cleaning up the mess by eating it.

What is Outreach for Byte Sized?

Our main robot build season is from December to April each year in FRC Robotics. In April, we transition into our Season of Outreach, where we focus on community connections, mentoring younger STEM students, participating in local activities, teaching workshops, supporting other STEAM activities in our greater community, identifying businesses to learn from and ask for support from, and fostering various community connections. Collectively, these activities go under the heading of Outreach Activities.
