October is the month we focus on Outreach, Sponsorship, and Learning. This month is focused on tools and coding. pop over to our outreach page to learn all about our community coding challenge for October, "If you give a Coder a Cookie". Vernonia and Astoria Schools have been invited to help celebrate coding with this activity. We encourage other schools in the area to join us with their own version too.
It is time to recruit some new team members at our annual club rush in fall. We had fun showcasing our current project, TEE REX our prototype tee shirt shooter which kind of resembles a dinosaur.
Homecoming in a rural High School is a pretty big deal. Byte Sized walked in the parade, had Senior Homcoming court representation and generally supported our school in an age-old Fall tradition.
is a friendly competition at Wilsonville High School in the off season to give the focus to the femail and non-bianary students on the team. We had seven students come out and one come later as a visitor.
Late September: In the shop this week, we are practicing driving for Girls Gen, heading out to the neighborhood to seek sponsors, and preparing some shirts for our last year's sponsors.

Two of our Robotics team, Jaclyn and Conrad, came out to kick off another year of partnering with PCC OMIC to provide 4-8 grades with a community FIRST Lego League experience. They were on hand to help with build and with coding our new LEGO bots this year.
A couple of the team managed to make it to Portland State University for a day of workshops and classes in robotics. One of our senior students, Sean, even taught a class on Swerve drive maintenance and upkeep to 30 high school students and mentors.

September 2025: School has resumed. We are turning our attention to gearing up for Oregon Girls Gen on October 4, 2025. We are working this week on getting our robot to see the April Tags, getting some updates to the website, getting our sponsorship packets ready to go out, and getting our yearly thank you packets out to our amazing sponsors!

Late August 2025: We have some new storage, a new bot to learn on and lots of teaching and learning to go as the summer winds down. We still meat Tuesdays and Thursdays in the metal shop right after school and going into fall we would love to see some new faces and new mentors. In addition, we have been getting some designs and plans in place for our next season. School begins on the 4th of September and after that we will have 37 meetings until kickoff on January 10. 37 meetings to teach all of the tools, program a robot, run a mock competition, participate in homecoming and other school and community events, learn about wiring, mechanicals and building, and grow together as a team. 37 days to fundraise, to present on STEM topics, to clean the shop, check the robots, to learn project management, to take on leadership roles, and be a contributor. 37 days to do everything! Come along for the ride if you like!
What do we do on a robotics team?
Our Bytebots are trying on some Archeology themed hats to prepare for the 2026 Season
One of our sister teams donated a robot to us. We are learning about this new swerve drive!
We need some new storage in the shop so we are creating a new drill holder.
Early August 2025: One of our sister teams, the Loggerbots out of Vernonia High School, is able to pass on lots of wonderful gear for us as they are pivoting to doing an FTC team that fits much better into their curriculum and so will not need some of the FRC-specific items they currently have. So we have lots of inventory to sort through and a shop to organize before school begins. On this same theme, one of our coaches attended a 2-day workshop put on by ORTOP and learned how to build, and code the FTC robots that Vernonia will be using this year. We will add their competitions to our calendar to see if we can cheer them on!
The Vernonia team, The Loggerbots, donated some parts, robot chassis and swerve to us!
ORTOP put on a hands-on designing, coding, and driving workshop for volunteers and coaches for FTC robotics

July 2025: This week Byte Sized heads to the Columbia County Fair on Thursday (July 17, 2025) to take over the Exhibition hall and play with robots. 10-4 in the big octogon building. We are bringing Debby the new Demo bot, AutoMati, our 2024 Competition robot, and our T Shirt cannon
Our main building season ended well, and we now turn our focus to our outreach, new builds, and updating our webpage. We also have the County Fair to prepare for as well as some other engagements around our community.
We are working on a new tank drive bot to give our newer team members a chance to put stuff together off-season. We are calling it our wifflebot or DEBBY (designed, erected, built by youth).
In addition, we have been looking over our 2023 robot, Automati, and found some sheared wiring and several small issues to address before the County Fair.
